OpenAI's reported revenue is $50B, not $70B
OpenAI's annualized revenue run rate, as of the end of September 2026, is about $50B, counting only OpenAI's retained share of partner sales such as Azure, according to Axios on 8 Oct 2026. That is the figure the scoreboard scores.
Axios reported this is roughly $20B less than a figure near $70B that had previously circulated from OpenAI to investors. The gap is described as an accounting "gross-up": the larger number counted revenue that OpenAI does not actually retain.
The scoreboard's rule is to show both numbers and score the reported one. The $70B figure appears on OpenAI's lab page as "claimed," not scored, following the methodology's "claimed vs reported" principle: when a company or its investors push a higher number than what is later reported, both are shown, and the reported one is scored.
This also means OpenAI's $50B and Anthropic's $67.2B run rate are not directly comparable on accounting terms alone: Anthropic books cloud-partner sales gross, while OpenAI nets out the partner's share.
On the scoreboard, OpenAI's revenue component works out to 95.5 out of 100 (as of 19 Oct 2026), using the log-scale formula 100 × log10(revenue / $100M) / log10(top revenue / $100M), where Anthropic's $67.2B is currently the top figure. OpenAI's valuation is scored separately: its last closed round valued the company at $852B as of 31 Mar 2026.
